Tiki the Kangaroo mouse

Today both Anna and I where at the creche. To are surprise we where greeted this morning by a - as we call it - kangaroo mouse. We call it this because of her little pouch and because of her (it might have been his, sorry Tiki if I got your gender wrong) amazing jumping ability.

Being the animal lover that I am, I imidiatly tried to bond with her. And it didn’t take long for me to win her confidence over. This brought me to another idea: why not capture her and claim her as are second pet!

So we did. With joined efforts between me and Anna it didn’t take very long for us to catch the little fur ball. She was cute for a while. I was already debating on whether we should check if she was a biter or not, and if she was what to do about the bite (I don’t know where Tiki’s been). But than all of a sudden she showed us her amazing jumping talent. She jumped easily 5 times her body length, jumping straight out of the bucket. Of course I was in pursue now, and it took me about a quarter of an hour to recapture the little bugger.

While we were debating where to keep her in and what to do with her during the holidays we spotted blood on a picture we took of her. After a quick medical check up it seemed that she had occurred a nose bleed during her jump. Deciding that the whole expedition was going to far now we decided to let her go a little bit further on the school premises.

So unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Tiki almost as fast as she came. But we managed to get a nice picture of her:

When we walked out of the creche it seemed things where even getting a bit stranger. Right in front of the creche was a pickup truck, lying upside down completely smashed. There was only a driver in there and when he came out - unharmed, fortunately - I immediately spotted why the guy drove of the road. He was holding a half empty bottle of Old Brown Shandy in his hand.

We took some pictures for the Buchter News, but decided not to question him, because a drunken driver who just flipped his car might just not be the friendliest of all persons.

Anyway, an exciting day with enough to tell. Eric from the Sandrose has also - very generously - donated us two mountain bikes, so expect some bicycle stories in the near future!

Cheers, Hidde
