Yesterday we have been to a typical Lüderitz house party. Of course one which is only attended by Afrikaans people (white in general) and it was quite a surreal spectacle. First of all you can’t imagine your allowed to make so much noise, but I guess here there are now noise regulations. Whenever you want to you can put the music on as loud as you want to - and believe me it’s loud! - for as long as you want to.
Then of course a party is not a party without a braai, so you’ll get a constant supply of meat from 10 p.m. up to 1.30 a.m. People are in general really nice - specialy to us, as the Buchter volunteers are loved here by everyone - but at the same time it’s hard to hear the racist comments they tend to make. Don’t get me wrong not all of them are racist, but there are a few.
I think the most daugnting thing about beeing here is that it’s just so damn small! There is really nothing to do here. There are hardly any tourists here - if they are they only stay a day. It’s just hard to imagine what I’ll be doing here a year. Right now the hardest thing about it is that the moments your bored are usually the hardest. I guess it’ll all get better once you get to know more people and do more stuff and it’ll all be alright, but right now I’m struggeling a bit.
O well, I’ll get used to the Lüderitz way of life eventually!

Jullie woonruimte ziet er prima uit! Heel goed zelfs vergeleken met die van mij..
Het begin is denk ik het moeilijkst.. En ik kan me voorstellen dat niks te doen hebben dan niet echt helpt! Ik ben nu in het Durbanville kinderhuis, en doe op dit moment alleen maar nightshifts (7 uur ’s avonds tot 7 uur ’s ochtens), en overdag is het vaak vooral slapen, eten en langs de supermarkt en af en toe het internetcafe..
Hoe gaat het tussen jou en je PT partner? En bevalt verder het werk bij de krant wel?
Je website ziet er verder erg goed uit!!
Ik hoop dat je snel beter kan inburgeren.. Ik zal je blog in de gaten blijven houden!

Lieve Hidde,
Net een heel stik getypt en alles weer weg, weer proberen. Ik begrijp dat het moeilijk is nu, de wereld waar je vandaan komt en waar je nu zit zijn zo verschillend. Het kost tijd om je draai te vinden. Nu zeg je een jaar is lang, maar geloof me straks voelt het als veel te kort. Ook is het goed als je zelf actie onderneemt. Pas als jij energie uitstraalt en positief bent, gaat het lopen. De mensen komen niet naar jou toe. Kan je ook niet een hockey of voetbal clubje oprichten met de Valembola creche en andere gegadigden? Kinderen vinden dat prachtig en ze zijn er vaak heel goed in. En het is ook een goede manier om hun verdriet te vergeten. Ik ben benieuwd. Is het al gelukt met je mobiel? En hoe gaat het met de krant, doe je er nog een sudoku in? Ik ben benieuwd. Hou je taai en veel liefs van Myrthe. Ze werkt hard en komt snel hier langs. Kus, Mamma
